This Week in Glenview Watch

— The village manager defends his new finance chief.

— The two men say they’re out to change the culture at Village Hall.

— A judge says Glenview must review its decision to fire police officer Melanie Meyer.

— Construction is finally underway on car dealerships at Patriot and Willow,

— And there’s another sign of the times in the middle of Willow Road.  A developer has planted trees there!

Also, you can check out Courtney Flynn’s story on Glenview Watch in the Metro Section of today’s Chicago Tribune.  Village President Kerry Cummings tells the Trib she doesn’t read The Watch because it contains anonymous comments from readers.  Do you buy that?

Ms. Cummings is a hypocrite. Village officials themselves take complaints anonymously to protect the complaining parties. Neighbors who snitch on their neighbors are fine by Ms. Cummings’ standards.

In any event, the comments to the Watch are not anonymous. They are reviewed and screened for offensive content by the site moderator. The moderator knows the identity of those who dare to voice their opinions, not something that can be done freely without repercussions from the very same official who is troubled by dissent or criticism.

  2. To the Glenview Watch Fan… you make an excellent point! U smart.

  3. Hear you are going to write 30 to the Glenview Watch. We shall miss your fresh , investigative voice and illuminating ecrivations. We are sorry to see you go. Wish you all good things in your new endeavors.

  4. The Glenview Watch is a disgrace if it wants to be considered a reputable news source. It is quite clear that you hardly ever check your sources and that you refuse to acknowledge when you print blatantly false information. On top of that, your writers and reporters (other than your self and your husband) are anonymous. It seems to me that you give the village of Glenview little reason to trust your publication other than a place to whine and complain. I hope that you enjoy your time in Virginia.

  5. Dear Sandy and Dean,

You will be missed by many of us who receive our important Glenview info from you. Good Luck on your new jobs.

I do want you to know that I miss the old format where I could tell the computer and printer to print and receive all of the current info in one fell swoop. With the new format, it takes at least an hour to print one subject at a time. I will probably give up reading the “Glenview Watch” if the new format is continued. It is too tedious and time consuming.

    Sincerely,

    Diana Vernof

  8. In light of the recent DUI fatality here in Glenview I’d like to pitch an idea which may help address the problem of Drinking While Driving (DWD). Last week while walking through the abandon Dominick’s parking lot at Waukegan and Glenview Road I was struck by the number of empty booze bottles scattered about on the pavement (i counted 19). I’m talking about those little hard alcohol bottles often available on airplanes. It occured to me that these small bottles of booze are consumed shortly after being purchased by motorists. Because of their size these small bottles can be emptied into a soft drink or coffee cup and easily disposed of out the car window. Are these tiny bottles of booze meant for any other purpose? Should hard liquor bottles 8 ounces (half pint) and smaller be banned from sale in Glenview to help reduce Drinking While Driving? To clarify, I’m not talking about bottles of liqour which are larger in size and meant to be carried home and enjoyed – just the small convenient bottles which end up in the parking lots surronding Glenview liquor stores and in my or possibly your front yard. If you don’t believe me take a stroll through the Dominick’s parking lot. Can the Village of Glenview Government be pro-active in the fight to help reduce Drinking While Driving? Hopefully.
